Contributing to a Green Legacy

Ethiopia is taking part in a national green legacy campaign to break the world record by planting 200 million tree saplings on Monday, July 29, 2019. We believe that enhancing the capacity of the ecosystem services, particularly in our industrial parks, is vital to ensure sustainable development. Planting trees helps to preserve biodiversity and water resources, sequester greenhouse gases, mitigate and adapt the impacts of climate change, build resilience and advance social capital. With that firm conviction, the EP team took the time to plant trees early on Monday morning on July 29th, 2019.
The team planted seedlings of indigenous trees: Spatoda Nilotica, Jakaranda, Podocarpus Falcatus, Dracneca Studneri, Olea Africana in the Bole Lemi II industrial park in the outskirts of Addis Abeba. The trees were pre-selected by Addis Ababa City Government’s Environmental Protection & Green Development Commission as per the climate and soil conditions of the area. The park greenery department prepared the pits in advance and has taken the responsibility of ensuring growth and survival of the seedlings.
